A good outline- but overpriced in this edition I've been through two different project development methodology training course, and this slim volume has served as a handy reference for my own work. It summarizes most of the important details in software development, and for those on a budget it might be used by itself as a basic tutor for managing a software project. My personal copy is a paperback edition, and at the price I paid I thought it was a pretty reasonable deal.
Archaic information and way over priced I have read several project management books over the years andthis is the first I've found to be worthless and the first I've everreturned. I personally had two big challenges with it. First, theinformation is very out of date. You cannot expect a book written 1992(I believe) to be highly applicaple to today's technology. Second,...[the amount I paid] is way overpriced for a "paperback"(I'm still trying to figure out what "text book binding"means) that is as skimpy on information as this. Close to 10 pageswere dedicated to listing project management software that doesn'texist today. For the value of your dollar, you could probably gettwo other books with 4x the information.
Proven Over Time I have used this book for since 1995 to help manage computer projects at/on both formal and informal environments. The step-by-step layout allows you to adapt the techniques in this book to whatever you happen to be doing. The only thing I could wish could be added would be some information on managing object oriented projects (something I have had to improvise on...lazy as that sounds!). Anyway, this book is excellent and should be on the shelf of every project manager's desk. After six years I still take it down and browse through it for suggestions.
Very easy outline for a new project manager, gave quick view I have ask many people for direction and was told just do it and you will learn. I am 55 and starting a new project in a new world. This book is what I have been looking for,for over a year. I am an old dog trying to learn new tricks and this book hits the mark 110%. I wish I could find more in this format.
Fabulous! What every Project Manager needs. This easy to read book provides the project manager with a set of cookbook type recipes for successfully managing a systems project. Simple charts and tables are provided to ensure that nothing is forgotten or missed in the sometimes chaotic world of managing projects. Humorous anecdotes and references help to soften this often boring topic. A "must" for all project managers and those who need to understand this subject.
