Product Description This book offers a concise, applications-oriented introduction to continuum mechanics. It begins with a review of vectors and tensors and their applications to the domain and boundary integrals. The remaining chapters cover kinematics, equilibrium and kinetics, elastic solids, and Newtonian fluids. Every chapter includes numerous worked examples and problems. By providing a reasonable balance between mathematical rigor and practical applications, between solids and fluids, and between linear and nonlinear theories, this timely book will be useful to engineering students, as well as practicing engineers and applied scientists.
Book Description Continuum mechanics is concerned with the global behavior of gases, liquids, or solids. The concept is particularly useful in engineering in that it represents a way of visualizing a physical model that approximates everyday observations. This book offers a concise, applications-oriented introduction to continuum mechanics. It begins with a review of vectors and tensors and their applications to the domain and boundary integrals. The remaining chapters cover kinematics, equilibrium and kinetics, elastic solids, and Newtonian fluids - all with numerous worked examples and problems.

A moderate text book for continuum mechanics This book is slightly a bit too rough and the author did not attempt to give the reader a rigorous understanding of what is continuum mechanics. Formulas are given without further explaination why. However, for those who wish to pass the exam but dont really want to know more, this is a good choice.
