Amazon.com Laura Lemay's Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML 4 in 14 Days is an intimidatingly massive tome, but it's an excellent starting point for anyone serious about learning HTML. The title is potentially misleading as the HTML 4 coverage seems like an afterthought and doesn't appear in the 14-day course at all. Instead, HTML 4 appears in the second of two "Bonus Days." This is understandable, considering that a standard for HTML 4 hadn't been reached by the time of the book's publication date. If you're looking for solid HTML 4 coverage, it might be best to look elsewhere or wait for the next Professional Reference Edition. If you need a complete tutorial on HTML and Web publishing from beginning to end, this remains a solid choice. The book assumes little previous knowledge, yet helps you master a number of HTML features, including typography, frames, tables, and forms. This guide also gives you a solid introduction to related topics that will quickly face almost everyone who develops a site: HTML authoring tools, Web graphics, multimedia, page design, JavaScript, CGI programming, plug-ins, security, and even Web server management. Many of these have been updated for the new edition. You may not be directly concerned with all these issues, but it's important to understand the role they play in the overall site. If one single book can give you an overview of the entire scope of site creation, this is it.

A great reference tool, perhaps not a primary learning tool I am presently using this book as a recommended text in an HTML college class. It is not the primary text, but I am CONSTANTLY referring to it because it is so thorough. I recommend it for anyone who is SERIOUS about learning HTML in depth.
This is a great reference tool for all publishers. I have used this refernce guide for a year exclusively, for its easy to read format and quick to find index. I highky suggest this to all.
A very comprehensive and challenging look at HTML This is an excellent book for those who want to learn HTML without using an Editor. This is an excellent book for those who are dedicated to learning HTML properly. Most of the people I talked to that did not like this book were the type of people that thought it was just easier to use FrontPage. While this is true, they are missing the point. This is an excellent book to teach HTML as well as use as a reference guide after you have learned HTML.
Makes a handy doorstop This book came HIGHLY recommended and I have to admit I'm completely disappointed. If I hadn't opened the CD I'd return it. Tries to touch on everything but leaves you with an understanding of nothing. Makes the simplest things very complicated. I bought SAMS Teach Yourself HTML in 24 Hours ($20.00, 450 pages, paperback) prior to this purchase and find myself referencing that book because LeMay either covers the topic in such a disjointed manner or doesn't cover it at all. Buy a less expensive book. This one just isn't worth it.
Excellent This book is a great book for those just starting out, and for those who want a reference guide to HTML.
