Product Description
The text is organized to provide flexibility in choosing topics and the order in which they are presented. Each chapter, including the Introduction begins with a brief overview and list of objectives. The Windows 98 Textbook contains brief tutorials at the end of almost every chapter. The tutorial reviews the material by leading the student through a hands on exercise. There are also Review Exercises that contain completion, true/false, and multiple-choice questions, with the answers to odd-numbered questions in Appendix C, a last Review Exercise in each chapter which asks the students to define a given list of terms that was introduced in the chapter, and Lab Exercises that require students to perform the kinds of tasks they will encounter using Windows on an everyday basis. Tips that provide insight or specialized knowledge about the topic at hand and Warnings, which caution the reader against taking certain actions are included periodically throughout the text.

The Best Windows 98 Book Available!!
I have tried about a dozen different books on Windows 98 and have been somewhat disappointed by them. They all seem to have the usual "boilerplate" stuff that doesn't really answer some of the questions that stump beginners (and some "pros"). This book seems to anticipate your questions as you read through it.

The book is very comprehensive, and it presents information in a very clear and nontechnical manner. For example, when I first began using Windows 98, I didn't understand why it had both the My Computer window and the Explorer window. But, on page 122, Mr. Venit succinctly says, "...the My Computer icon is simply a built-in shortcut that starts Explorer and opens the My Computer folder within it!" Then, on page 123, he very clearly and helpfully explains the "two basic differences" between My Computer and Explorer. He goes on to "examine the consequences of each of these differences."

I most highly recommend The Extended Edition. Frankly, I am surprised it doesn't have a higher Sales Rank. Some might consider this book a bit expensive, but in my opinion it is worth every penny. PS: By the way, I have no connection whatsoever with the publisher or the author. I sincerely hope Mr. Venit publishes a book on Windows XP(which I expect to upgrade to someday). PPS: I am a computer "newbie," but I am a retired educator with 40 years of experience in the educational field.

illustrations are very good
Laura Hunt Tulsa CC "The illustrations for the most part are very good. I like to see the screen captures what the author is talking about just in case the student is studying and does not have a computer in front of them."

Great Success
Cathie Hoffmann Scott Community College, Davenport, Iowa "The textbooks are well written and easy to understand. I have had great success teaching from previous versions and I am sure it will be the same with the Windows 98 version."
