I like it - the language is easy to follow I understand that this book will be considered simplistic for someone that want to be a surgeon or need to have a deeper knowledge in physiology. However, my interest is to understand the basis of physiology specially how the system works as a whole, and it is why I loved this book. This book is not traditional as other medical physiology book, because it connects the micro with the macro and the sequence of the text is innovative and original. I think this book is a very nice introduction to the world of physiology, specially for rehabilitation and kinesiology professionals.
Amazon's not telling you there's a newer edition! For whatever reason, Amazon is not telling you that there's a newer printing of this same book under ISBN 9780321559807! Same edition, same cover, although they are cleverly NOT showing you a picture of it on their website. Thanks to that, used copies are going for a song, compared to this printing. Thanks, Amazon (sarcasm.) Oh wait! When I clicked on THIS PAGE, you told me I bought THIS BOOK on August 5, 2009. And yet, I can't sell it back here. NICE (more sarcasm.)
Oversly Simplistic and Inconsistant - Pretty Pictures Though! This book covers all of physiology so it has the breadth, but not the depth. The language used is very simplistic, eg. every time the book mentions edema it redefines it as "swelling". Some of the chapters are very good and the pictures are useful in the understanding of the material. Others, such as the immunology chapter, are all over the place and do not explain things in a logical way. Overall, this books tries to hard to be a fun read which is distracting from the purpose of a textbook - to present the material in an informative, and logical way. There are also no sources of original research or even review articles which can be useful to gain a deeper understanding of a specific topic. Definitely not an advanced physiology textbook.
text book This was ok. A bit more highlighting than I wanted and I didn't expect it to be a teachers edition. I should have just bought the international version.
Great service, only one complaint The book that I received was in pristine condition other than a few dents/ bent corners of the hardcover. From the way that it was received the packing was also damanged in the same areas as the book. As it can be expected for items shipped to end up slighly damanged, I feel that the book was still in exceptional condition. Very fast delivery!!!
