Product Description If you're searching for a comprehensive text in persuasion theory and research, you can find no better resource than Persuasion. Written in an accessible style that assumes no special technical background in research methods, this volume offers a comprehensive and critical treatment of theory and research in persuasion. This new edition has the same clear, straightforward presentation and the same broad coverage as the first edition, and has been thoroughly revised to reflect developments in persuasion studies. It includes new discussions of functional attitude approaches and of the theory of planned behavior, and updated treatments of familiar topics such as cognitive dissonance theory (e.g., recent research on hypocrisy induction), the elaboration likelihood model (e.g., the development of unimodel alternatives), and resistance to persuasion (e.g., studies of refusal-skill training programs). Excellent text When I began this book, I had almost no knowledge of the Persuasion theory and very little familiarity with social research in general. That wasn't a problem because of O'Keefe's writing skill. He provides great summaries (even putting summaries in the middle of chapters at appropriate places), examples (which minimize jargon that has not been previously introduced), and construction. I recommend this text.
Communication Class Text This text was our assigned text for my Comm class this summer semester. At first I was pretty bored and completely put off by the language and theories. But, after delving into it I find it fascinating. It's well written with good examples and easy-to-follow, real life ideas. Not something I'd read just for the fun of it, but a good text to accompany my class.
