Product Description An entertaining and informative look at America's most important historical document, from an award-winning journalist. Would national identity cards impose on our liberty? Did the Supreme Court really "choose" George W. Bush as our president? Do campaign contribution caps infringe on our freedom of speech? The United States Constitution is the basis for our most fundamental rights as Americans, and is a key element in nearly every major legal and political debate ever argued. But how many of us actually understand the language used by our Founding Fathers? Now Linda R. Monk, an award-winning author and journalist, takes us through the Constitution, line by line, to help us comprehend this amazing document. From the Preamble, which she analyzes with inspiration from Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Charlton Heston, and James Madison, to each and every amendment, Monk enlightens us by offering insight, legal expertise, surprising facts and trivia, opposing interpretations, and historical anecdotes to breathe life into this provocative and hallowed document.

Much To Think About this book was very helpful in preparing me for a class in school.
The Words We Live By This book is an incredible source of information on our Constitution. It breaks down the document into meaningful parts and then provides a detailed explanation as to why the framers wrote specifically the words they did. It also provides a lot of background material to not only make the document more understandable, but also places the words used in the document in context. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about this important work.
The U.S. Constitution. Is it alive? This excellent book has opened my eyes to the "living" U.S. Constitution. I have often wondered why there is so much disagreement among intelligent people and their interpretation of this short but important document. Linda R. Monk has helped me understand the many sides to the issues.

Should be required reading Excellent overview of the U.S. Constitution. The background, intent and history behind it and important interpretations over the years are all included in a nicely organized way. It would be a better country if everyone read this.
